・セルフ給油・・・・・ガソリンスタンドで、利用者が自分で給油し、料金を支払うシステム。１９９８年の消防法の改正で実施できるようになり、２００１年頃からリストラの一環として増加傾向を見せはじめた。セルフ式ガソリンスタンドは人件費などを抑えることができるため、通常のスタンドよりもガソリン価格が安く、サービス内容よりも価格を重視する消費者がふえていることで、人気がでている。実際に、通常スタンドの販売量を大幅に上回るようになった。このため当初は商社系スタンドが積極的に出店していたが、２００２年初めから石油元売り各社もセルフ式ガソリンスタンドの出店を積極的に実施し始めた。この戦略転換で、ガソリンの価格低下に拍車がかかる可能性が指摘された。
