・教育の経済学・・・経済学では、労働を資本とみなす考え方があり、それはアダム・スミス（Adam　Smith 1723～９０）にまでさかのぼることが出来る。一定量の労働が生む生産性を、高等教育・職業・訓練・徒弟修業・経験によって高めることが出来るからである。そこで投下される費用を投資とみることができる。親のとって子供の教育費は、子供が将来得るであろう所得の合計を高めるための投資である。企業は、より高い学歴もしくは技術を身につけた労働者をより高い給料で雇い、企業内の教育を行い、労働生産性を高めて収益を上げようとする、社会にとって国民の教育水準が上昇するなら、経済が効率的になり、しかも犯罪が減り、国民は読み・書き・そろばん・ができることによる外部効果を享受することになる。これらの観点から教育の経済学的意味がシュルツ（Theodore W・Schultz/１９０２～９８）ベッカー（Gary　Stanley　Beekeer　・１９３０～）ミンサー（Jacob　Mincer/１９２２～）など、シカゴ学派の経済学者を中心として研究されてきた。労働者を資本と見るとき、それを人的資本（human ・capital)とよぶ。人的資本は、経済成長との関連において重要とされる先進国の実質国民総生産の成長率は総労働時間の成長率を上回り、その差は技術ローマ（Paul　Michacl　Romer １９５５～）のよって、始められ、この１０年間研究が盛んな内生的資本の蓄積と技術進歩を内生化することが重要なテーマの一つとなっている。
