・大隈　重信・・・・・（１８３８～１９２２）・・・肥前藩出身。肥前藩士大隈保守の子。早稲田大学創設者。藩校弘道館で儒学、蘭学寮で蘭学を学び、また枝吉神陽に国学を学んだ。維新後、外国事務局判事、会計官副知事、ついで大蔵少輔など、政府の財政面を担当する。明治３年参議。征韓論争で非征韓論派な立って大久保体制を支えた。大久保暗殺後、伊藤博文との政権争奪に敗れ、下野して立憲改進党を組織した。以後、入閣と下野をくり返しながら長きにわたって政治活動を続けた。
